“When the City of Seattle passed a tax on all sales of guns and ammunition, the measure was hailed as a way to defray the rising costs of gun violence.
But since the tax took effect, those costs have only risen as gun violence in the city has surged. And the tax has apparently brought in much less than city leaders projected it would.
Seattle City Councilman Tim Burgess introduced the tax in 2015. It puts a $25 tax on every firearm sold in the city and up to 5 cents per round of ammunition. The measure easily passed and took effect January 1, 2016. Comparing the first five months of 2017 with the same period before the gun tax went into effect, reports of shots fired are up 13 percent, the number of people injured in shootings climbed 37 percent and gun deaths doubled, according to crime statistics from the Seattle Police Department.”
So let me get this straight…
Left-wing nutjob introduces ridiculous gun and ammo tax and promises it will help make the city safer and raise $300-500k per year to help fund the study of the causes of gun violence.
Meanwhile, gun violence goes up drastically and the city is less-safe than ever. And it raises merely half the amount of money he promised it would raise.
What cracks me up is that gun control activist Mark Glaze goes on Tucker Carlson and tells him the only reason that gun violence went up is because there have been several rival gangs shooting it out lately.
So you needed to tax Seattle gun owners to the tune of $200k to find that out?
No… no you didn’t. You should’ve spent your time focusing on increasing patrols and targeting high-priority crime targets rather than pushing your anti-gun agenda and taxing law-abiding citizens for no reason.
Tsk tsk Seattle… tsk tsk.
